REDUCED ABDOMINAL GIRTH

LLLT (low level laser therapy) is a safe, non-invasive and pain free technique, which is effective in reducing local adiposity. Based on this case series pilot investigation, combination of 3 different wavelengths of LLL was effective for abdominal girth reduction in 100% of our subjects (P < 0.001), without any side effects.

CANCER

Several studies and research have been carried out to show the impact of infrared sauna therapy on cancer cells. In a clinical trial published in 2009 in the Journal of Cancer Science and Therapy, researchers explored the effects of infrared heat treatment on mice cancer cells. The study found that, in just 30 days, the mice tumor volumes decreased by 86 percent.

In another study 9 Japanese researchers found that whole-body infrared hyperthermia significantly slowed the development of breast cancer tumors in mice with no adverse side effects. According to researchers, whole-body infrared hyperthermia is a viable noninvasive brain cancer therapy.

HIGH STRESS OCCUPATION

The benefits of heat exposure are extensive, as repeated heat exposure is known to stimulate enzymes, pathways, and cellular adaptations that benefit the whole organism. Specifically, repeated heat exposure upregulates HSP and AMPK in cultured cells, which are both known to mediate the expression of a key regulator of mitochondrial biogenesis...

ARTHRITIS

Sauna therapy, particularly its Finnish and infrared modalities, has emerged as a promising non-pharmacologic intervention with potential anti-inflammatory, musculoskeletal, and cardiovascular benefits. Heat exposure modulates inflammatory pathways by reducing pro-inflammatory agents (TNF-α, CRP, PGE2, LTB4) while promoting IL-10-mediated anti-inflammatory effects. Additionally, sauna therapy mitigates oxidative stress and enhances neuroendocrine regulation, contributing to systemic health benefits. Clinical evidence points to benefits of sauna therapy related to alleviating pain, reducing stiffness, and improving mobility in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and osteoarthritis (OA). Some studies have demonstrated reductions in pain scores and inflammatory markers, improved physical function, and disease stability following infrared sauna exposure.

ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS/RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

In all patients, a clinically relevant improvement was seen during the IR sauna treatment with pain and stiffness decreasing 5 to 24 points on the VAS. Pain reduced approximately 40% and 60% and stiffness approximately 50% and 60% for patients with RA and AS, respectively (Table 3). All patients felt well during and after IR treatment, and 30 min after the end of treatment, 88.2% of patients felt “comfortable” or “very comfortable.”

What is Waon Therapy? it is a form of thermal therapy using a far-infrared dry sauna

CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME

Perceived fatigue significantly decreased after therapy, although no significant reductions were observed during therapy. In addition, a negative mood, including anxiety, depression and fatigue, and the performance status significantly improved after therapy.

FIBROMYALGIA

All patients experienced a significant reduction in pain by about half after the first session of Waon therapy (11-70%), and the effect of Waon therapy became stable (20-78%) after 10 treatments.

DEPRESSION

Epidemiological data and some experimental data suggest that WBH (Whole body hyperthermia) practices are associated with reduced risk for both physical and mental health problems. For example, regular sauna bathing has been associated with reduced risk for cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality [Citation17,Citation18], stroke [Citation19], dementia and Alzheimer’s disease [Citation20,Citation21], acute and chronic respiratory conditions [Citation22], and psychotic disorders [Citation23]. Interventional studies include findings that dry infrared heat WBH interventions [Citation1,Citation2] and hyperthermic bath interventions [Citation24] can reduce depression symptoms among individuals with major depressive disorder; reduce somatic complaints in mild depression [Citation25]; reduce pain in fibromyalgia [Citation26]; improve myocardial perfusion abnormalities in patients with chronic total occlusion of coronary arteries [Citation27]; decrease ventricular arrhythmias in individuals with chronic heart failure [Citation28]; and produce transient improvements in lung function in individuals with obstructive pulmonary disease [Citation29]. Taken together, these data suggest that WBH practices may hold promise as non-pharmacologic approaches to maintaining and/or improving both physical and mental health.

Researchers assessed depression symptoms one and five weeks after beginning to administer a multicomponent intervention focused on reducing toxins in the body. This multicomponent intervention included three weekly 45-min WBH sessions, and the researchers found that participants in the intervention condition (relative to those in the control condition) had lower depression scores at both assessment points.

DETOXIFICATION

Saunas can be used very effectively for certain cardiovascular problems and as a means to enhance the mobilization of fat-soluble xenobiotics. When saunas are used to reduce blood pressure and enhance blood flow and cardiac functioning, only short sauna sessions (15 minutes) are necessary. When one wants to enhance the mobilization of heavy metals and chemical xenobiotics, longer sessions are needed and those should be medically monitored. But, for either use, saunas are safe and effective and should be used more frequently to benefit the health of our patients and ourselves.
